College Football Is Back

As I watch the 4th quarter of the Miami/FSU game, the first weekend of the college football season is underway. It amazes me how much money is made by these Universities as a result of the football programs. I too have been sucked into the vortex that is college football. I give an annual donation to to the University of Tennessee and pay additional money for my season tickets. I spend money driving up to Knoxville for the home games and drop a few more dollars into the university's pocket by buying a parking pass and the $8 dollar pizzas at the game. I gladly pay the money because my very well being is determined by whether or not the Big Orange win on Saturdays. I wonder if having my first child in December will dilute my passion for football in general or increase it as I will want to pass on to my son all that I enjoy about the game?

I spend countless hours every week watching games, reading articles, playing football video games, playing fantasy football, listening to talk shows, and traveling to Knoxville to see the Vols play. It is a passion that burns inside of me as it does in many fans. I wonder what else could i be doing with my time and whether or not I would get as much satisfaction from it? Although football dominates my time in the fall it also reunites me with friends and is something my wife and I both enjoy.

For now, I can't wait for the Thursday night Titans game and the trip back to Knoxville on Saturday with our good friends. As the season progresses and my unborn son continues to grow in my wife's womb, we will see if the fire for football keeps burning. Hey, I gotta go watch more football. FSU just scored on an interception and now lead 31-24. Go Vols!
